My ambition is to raise enough money and local support (through donations, grants & volunteers) to create workshops where people can come along and create their own art. This will be a safe space where people with mental health or wellness challenges can learn a new skill as well as improving their confidence.
I am profoundly deaf, diabetic and unable to work as a professional carpenter due to Meniere’s disease which causes vertigo and loss of balance.
My idea started back in the pandemic in 2020. During lockdown, I wanted to find a way to help not only my own mental health, but also to find a way of cheering the local people up during those difficult and dark days. The Metalheads were born! Using scrap metal, old spray paints and even clothing I created these quirky little characters that still can be seen outside so many shops and businesses in and around Minehead.
Materials come to my small workshop from local garages, blacksmiths and visits to scrap yards which means most sculptures come with a set of green credentials.
I still make them to order from time to time, but have now started making a variety of new sculptures and art work.
